ergonomics training courses are common place. These course teach the “correct” lifting technique and educate on desk ergonomics and posture in the work place.
Despite the vast number of people being trained, we are still experiencing epidemic proportions of back pain.

Our understanding of back pain has come a long way since the HSE manual handling guidelines were written. The evidence is convincing, and yet the training courses have not
kept up with this change.
Drawing upon the latest research from the fields of pain science; posture and ergonomics and a biopsychosocial understanding of back pain, the course will provide an evidence-
based framework for effective management of employees experiencing back pain. It will
present the evidence around posture, lifting, physical symmetry, Flexibility and desk
ergonomics, and make one realise that emphasising these aspects can be entirely unhelpful!
